Hi,
**Bear with me bew and old customers of Sky alike as this should or could save everyone money alike**
I was thinking about my more recent money saving ventures and thought I would share my late experiences of Sky.
Firstly so that you know where I am coming from, I am a salesman (dont hate me) so I saw this situation as a challenge as I hate the big corporates, BT, Sky, Seeboard etc that take us all for granted and although have many cheaper and more efficient options, will not let us know unless we ask. And to do that we have to go through 30 different departments and 7 hold music cd's to ask the question!!!
I grew up with parents that strongly disagreed with TV's in bedrooms, and definately were never getting Sky, therefore this was never a problem.
I recently however bought a house and at the same time had a good month so i cleared it with my 'better' half and decided I wanted to get Sky. Now Sky package their product by basically grouping their channels together into different options, ie Entertainment, Music, Science & Nature etc etcm there is 6 of them. They then have Sports and Movies which are the premium options.
Prices start from about £15 for 2 options and go all the way up to £44 for all 6 options and the Sports / Films. This is the top dog package and they call it Sky World.
Sky are currently offering 3 months half price on a 12 month contract. This is obviously very good as it can save up to £60. Now in my opinion, good but not good enough, £44 is a lot of money when if we were honest you can get by on just 5 that you had before.
However there is a segment of sky called FreeSat, see http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/ they are obviously very strongly linked to sky and can get very good offers as they buy the traffic in bulk. Now you need to have a dish up and a sky box (ebay for about £40) but if you call them and pressure them, took me 4 days, you can get Sky World for half price for 12 months on a 12 month contract!! Thats a saving of £240!! Now it is worth that!! You can also just get the minimum packages meaning you get loads of channels for just £7.50 a month!!!
This is not advertised and they do not even offer the information willingly if you call. I had to hang up and they called me back about 5 times but if you now call and mention a freind that has 'this deal' they will match it. I know this because 3 of my freinds have done this already!!!
Another little known fact is that if you are on a package that is over £30 a month, sky will give you Sky+ for the duration of your contract absolutely free!! This is the service that records and pauses live tv. Sounds bizarre and notmuch use but I got mine up and running at the weekend and it is excellent!!! You can do what they call a series link which is where you go to a program, hit the button and it records all the episodes, great for things that are on a bit late like CSI Miami!!! Also very easy to fit, you do need to provide the box but can be done at a total cost of 40-50. DONT PAY SKY!! They ask £40 for something called a twin LNB and £5 a metre of cable, you can buy an LNB from ebay for £4 and the cable for hardly anything.
FINALLY and sorry for all the detail. I now have a freind who works at Sky and they have a no-leave policy... If you say you want to go, they will not let youalthough you have to go far!! Now I know of 2 people that are currently paying £9.99 a month for sky world, just by saying ; I want to leave' then actually going all the way and saying no to everything they offer until they offer the low rate. THIS DOES WORK, TRIED AND TESTED. So if you are an existing customer and have been for over 12 months, give this one a go...
I think thats all I have to share and sorry about the essay, hope someone gains from it

I have read somewhere that at the moment SKY don't have deals on because at this time of year they are busily signing up new customers in readiness for Christmas telly.0

Yep, they cut me off two days ago when my 30 days cancellation was up and were adamant they would not offer any discounts off viewing packages, despite my being a good customer for at least 10 years!

I had sky+ put in a month ago and i said i would leave the best deal they offered me was sky+ for £50 and 2 box's upstairs for a extra £10 a month which is good cause we are allways fighting over sky here but not anymore2010 Super League Grand Final Winners :beer:0 -

Thats very strange as my next door neighbour cancelled a month ago and was due to end yesterday and they have been constantly on the phone over the past month offering cheap (but nbot that cheap deals) in the end he settled for £9.99 a month on a 12 month contract with them for Sky World (£44 package) he keeps everything as it is, he just saves £30 a month..
You do need to dangle a carrot in front of them though, say you dont want to leave but just cant afford it...0 -

Have a look at the table on this web page, look at the cost of sky+. you will see that the stars next to it means Sky+ is FREE (ie no monthly subscription cost) if you have more than 2 packages, ie pay over £30. Like I said in my origional posting you need to ask for this, a freind has the sky world package and called to get sky+ and they charged him £10 a month for 3 months before he realised, dont ask dont get.
What they have done is basically rip you off, that is if you are on the top package. Extra boxes should be £10 each a month. Sky world is 44 and Sky+ is free if u pay this... Call and ask if you need confirmation. So all you are saving is £4. If you add up what you have its 44(sky) +10(box) +10(box) = 60. Nice how they make you feel you got a deal though.....0
