Dry Skin.

For a long time I had oily skin with alot of blemishes, but now, not sure if it's winter and the heating being on almost constant but my face is completely dried out, to the point once I've had my foundation on a few hours it looks "cracked" if that makes sense.

Now I always moisturise before putting on any make up and before used to use Johnsons 24h Facial Moisturiser with Spf for oily/combination skin, but I switched to the same cream for dry skin when I realised what was happening but I still feel my face is really dry :(

Any recommendations for a decent moisturiser I can use before putting make up on?

  • I use Body Shop Vitamin E moisturiser and have done for years, it's very good.

You could try using a tinted moisturiser instead of foundation, again Body Shop do some in the Vitamine E range, these are very good moisturise without clogging the skin and certainly no cracking.

When my skin is very dry I use Astral as a night cream - at only 99p a pot it is very MSE!

I had dry skin when I started my diet - found Superdrug vit e oil is fab - tiny pot but lasts ages and the vit e skincare range is on offer I think? 2 items for £3.99?

I've tried organic skin oils but find the Superdrug ones fab!

Also worked out I was lacking essential fatty acids in my diet so have a teaspoon of hemp oil on salads etc or as a shot on occasions - It works wonders!

  • I've found the Ponds moisturiser for dry skin (SPF 15) to be very good. It's only £3.99 a jar too, so very MSE! I also use a serum underneath the moisturiser (currently using an Olay one), which certainly helps with dry skin. A night it's either Nivea soft (good for anywhere on the body and often on offer in Savers) or a capsule of Starflower oil (£1.49 for 30 big capsules in Numark Chemists), but you can get them in most Supermarkets quite cheaply too.
  • We are all full of water and it is escaping out of our bodies through the skin all the time. The reason your skin is dry is that it lets the water out too quickly. Why it does that is going to be very particular to you, so you need to work out the best strategy for your own skin.

The Astral cream that Aminita recommends is one that a lot of people with very dry skin find helps them a lot. Attrixo is another simliar one. These are both very occlusive oily formulations that really seal the skin up. In the same vein, straight vaseline might be worth a try.

Another totally different cream is Neutrogena's Norwegian formula. This does nothing at all for most people but can be a life saver for others.

If you want to give the most serious treatment possible outside a hospital, go to a chemist and ask at the counter for some Lanolin BP. It will take ages to apply but on some people's skin can give almost miraculous results.

    Best of luck.

You could try moisturising from within, Evening Primrose Oil, 1000mg works wonders:)
