Wedding DJ / Singer

Hi everyone

An ex work colleague of my partner who is a singer has said he will do our music for us for our wedding but it will be his first wedding "gig".

What I wanted to ask was what are your arrangements for your DJ? Are you having him playing whilst you are having your wedding breakfast or just in the evening?

As we are not having exclusive use of the hotel (although hopefully there won't be too many other non-wedding guests) we have to turn all loud music down by 11.30 so I want to get my money's worth :A

  • Hi,

I have not been to a wedding where they had the dj playing music during the meal. You just want some background music then which doesn't really fit what a dj is best at. I'd just set up an ipod playlist for the meal and get the dj working when you want the party to start!

  • I've worked at corporate events where we got the DJ to set up before the meal, stick a Michael Buble CD on on a loop during the meal and then play music properly afterwards.

However when I worked in a hotel the DJ who came as part of the wedding package would generally start playing about 7 o'clock after the meal and then keep going until about 1am.

    Hi

That's what I thought, just have him after the meal - possibly about 5pm doing some "crooning" / quiet music (leaving it up to him whether he chooses to sing or play them) and then more livelier stuff as people are arriving for the evening reception.

    Thanks everyone.
