Not a 100% on this at all I am afraid, I would ring National Debtline and have a chat with them. They are open till 9pm tonight but be aware they are busy so patience is required.

jedi82. just a thing here. my youngest daughter qualified as a midwife last year and her basic is under 13k and from the first month of working and earning, student loans were taking their money.

They really shouldnt be! Infact my partner is now earning just over £15k and they haven't taken anything from him yet and he's been working since June last year...

she is liable to pay slc if her monthly salary exceeds 1,250 gross
it's not actually based on the yearly amount but the monthly amount

'last year' is a bit ambiguous

the payments don't start until the April after you leave Uni

i have helped her with a letter to the student loans people and its going off today. have looked at postings on here from sometime ago and it would seem that ANY money, loans or grants, that come from the student loans company, are all treated the same. thanks you all for your help.xx

    a quick update here.

it seems that, according to the student loands people themselves that, although the loans cannot be included in a bankruptcy petition, overpayments of student GRANTS, can be.

my DILs overpayment that she was being chased for , has just been struck off.

Well, the Acts/Regulations that exempt student loans from a bankruptcy only mention 'loans' made under the 2 relevant higher education acts. Certainly doesn't have any wider definition that could be applied to further funding such as grants if I recall correctly, so that makes sense.
