Super Kingsize mattress for under £400?

Having got a bit of a bargain bed from Marks and Spencer's I may now be regretting it, super kingsize mattresses seem to be crazy expensive, any tips for what to look, and what not to look for.
I don't want memory foam as am worried about it being a bit hot. Open coil = bad?
Thanks in advance

You can get a pocket sprung mattress for under £400 if you shop on line, and stay away from the big brands. But if it is a slatted base then you will have to lay a sheet of pegboard or hardboard over the slats to protect the pocket springs.
Pocket springs will ge far better support than open coil springs.0 -
Will I get better support from an open coil or a pocket sprung without pegboard?
Is there a way I can tell what sort I have now? We bought it nearly 10 years ago and have no ideaHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -

You will get far better support from pocket sprung. But if you don't use the pegboard or hardboard then it won't last very long. It's a no brainer really as hardboard would only cost you about £10.
Push down near the edge of your mattress, if the springs compress easily, then it is probably pocket sprung.0 -
We recently got a new bed which was super kingsize. We loved our old mattress but it was a king so we bought the same one again but in the bigger size. Managed to find it cheaper online at furnright.com.
It's a Flexcell memory mattress - obviously a whole separate debate as to whether you want this type of mattress, some people hate them. But if this happens to be what you want, might be worth a look.
£359 instead of £400-700 elsewhere - was a little suspicious of the cheap price but did a lot of research on the company and seemed ok - figured I would claim from credit card if it didn't turn up.
But it arrived just fine and we're really pleased.0 -

Thanks for moving, was unsure where to put it!
Think we'll go to a couple of places at the weekend to at least try and feel a difference, or decide whether how firm we want it, then have a look online
Pretty sure we have an open coil and I do find it comfortableHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -

If you like open coil sprung mattresses, then you can get some very good quality, top of the range open coil sprung mattresses for well under £400.0 -
Not sure I've ever slept on a pocket sprung, but the one we have certainly is ok.
Pretty sure every mattress I've ever laid on has been comfortableHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
Just been to a few places, there was a nice Sleepeezee one in Dreams, but it was over £1k. A local bed shop has a Slumberland Matrix for £600 which we liked, 1400 spring and a layer of memory foam on top, have managed to find it online for £550 - Which is obviously a little more than we wanted to pay.
I like the idea of a pocket sprung with a small layer of memory foam on topHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -

Like I said, stay away from big brand names and big retailers if you want good quality at a low price.0
