Endowment to sell

Hi, can anyone advise whether to surrender an endowment with profits or to sell on. The endowment matures in 2014 - it already is at risk of shortfall which we have been aware of but continued to hold onto it just as a small savings pot - but due to circumstances the cash is needed now. I am new to these forums, but would appreciate any help - many thanks:)
