We live thankfully in a very multicultural city, one thing I saw summed it up perfectly, my Hindu chemist giving a christmas card to one of their Muslim customers.
Here we celebrate everything and my advice would be go with the flow!
What about a calendar with nice scenes on it, landscapes (if they are Muslim you cannot have pictures of faces)
And no assumptions - one Muslim lady I know makes food from a different country every day of the week - on Friday she makes fish and chips

Why not just keep it simple and go for a box of chocolate. Something they don't sell in the shop obviously. Everyone like's chocolates.0

Thank you everyone for your replies. I really like the idea of baking something but since I'm hopeless at that, I think I will go with the flowers idea. Not the most original, I know, but I am sure the gesture will be appreciated. Thanks again.0

good idea; why not go for a plant that flowers rather than cut flowers which will die off in a couple of weeks. I got my mum a lovely little ochard from a supermarket a few months ago and it's still going strong. It wasn't expensive but it is a lovely plant.
It was similar to this http://www.tesco.com/flowers/product.asp?leftNav=52&product=059827314 but nowhere near as expensive. I think all supermarkets do them or if you have a market near you why not try there. You could personalise it with a ribbon and card. We’ve had to remove your signature. A sikh friend of mine throws a right huff if I don't get him a Xmas card lol. Other fiends from different cultures I manage to find a happy new year card which is usually appreciated as I go to the effort to find one. Flowers would be nice. Might be worth finding out if you don't already know what religion they follow if you want to buy/make food and as has shown by other suggestions some things offend some religions. Bought a friend who owns a shop a coin sorter once, he said it was the best present ever
Saves him counting all the change. One day I might be more organised...........
