dentist/brace question

In the past few years I've noticed that one of my front teeth has moved forward, it's really very noticeable and if I tilt my head back with my mouth open it looks horrendous, gives the impression of part of my tooth is missing because of the few mm difference, it's also very noticeable from a side on view. It aches quite a lot as well. I'm under the impression that it's due to my wisdom teeth coming through, as I had no problems before them?

I have a phobia of dentists since I had some problems when pregnant with my son that left me in agony for weeks on end because my dentist hadn't a clue what was causing the pain.

Is it ever possible to get braces on the NHS? And if not how much would I be looking at for braces privately? It's really starting to get me down, especially as my teeth have always been straight up until now.

Braces are not available for adults on the NHS except for severe jaw problems.

Privately braces will be £1200 to £2000.

Wisdom teeth do not push teeth forward they will move naturally by themselves but factors such as gum disease can make this movement much worse.

You need to discuss this with your dentist who will advise you as to why tooth is moving and, if necessary, recommend you an orthodontist and give you an idea of what treatment may involve.

You can't get braces on the NHS if you are over the age of 18 :(

One of my upper teeth sits further back from the rest and I have a misaligned bite. Everytime I see a photo of myself, all I "see" is my horrible teeth even though noone else really notices and this has bothered me for years!! I'm due to have braces fitted on both my upper and lower teeth next month and the total cost, which includes the retainer afterwards will be £2700.

Whatever you want/need - step one is to find a dentist you can trust, and go regularly.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

thanks, my gums do bleed so is this what's causing it? noticed it started since the birth of my second child nearly 3 years ago. Is there any way of making gum disease better?

Buy an electric toothbrush and use it 3 times a day. Not meant to sound patronising but until you get checked over properly thats about best advice I can pass on

ok thanks, sorry. I just really do have a phobia of going to the dentist, the thought of it now is making me cry, but guess I need to bite the bullet and go.
