not conditioning roots of hair?

whilst searching this board for other hair related matters I have come across several posts saying that you should not apply conditioner to your roots, but no explanation as to why?

can anyone shed any light - I've always applied conditioner all over and have never known any difference

I assuming as it can weigh the hair down? The ends of your hair are dead so assume conditioner is not really required at the root end. Having said that I can't be bothered with the faff and tend to slap it on and rub it in all over :o

A lot depends on the type of conditioner you use too, one which contains a lot of silicone (dimethicone) will possibly make your hair look greasy after one day so on the ends would be preferable however if you like a volume giving conditioner you should apply to the roots for maximum effect:)

Most coniditioners will weigh the roots down or make them look greasy faster, generally conditioner is best only on the ends/lengths unless it's one for colour or volume when the formula is generally "lighter".

I have greasy hair, and find it gets greasier sooner if I put conditioner on the roots.

I've always had greasy hair and have always put conditioner on the ends only 9well the bottom half of my hair, not strictly the very ends...and I don't always use it. No matter how well I rinse it, it always feels heavy on the roots and makes my hair appear greasier
