How do I get this
I have applied for a job with a company competitor in the same area etc so effectively I could take all my customers with me.
How do I word My resignation letter to get garden leave?
Without breaking any rules on DPA etc

Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

I think garden leave only applies in the case of redundacy, where they let you finish work before your final contractual date while still being paid, on the basis that they can call you in should the need arise.
In your circs I would have thought your main worry would be how to avoid being escorted off the premises, because poaching customers from your current employer is considered highly unethical.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

No, you don't need to be made redundant for it to apply, and I would think the terms of your contract should determine whether or not you are offered it.Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

Generally if you are the sort of person who garden leave would be appropriate for you would also normally have an anti-competition clause in your contract too making it impossible to go straight to work for a competitor.
Whilst many of the people I have known leave have gone via garden leave because of working in the Strategy department it has all been at the employers request rather than the employees. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

my house mate had a similar situation.
He is employed but he has clients that will follow HIM not the business.
If he was to leave they would give him garden leave so that he cannot poach their clients - think this is about 3 months.
in that time you cannot work for anyone else.
also because by law they are the COMPANIES clients, you cannot contact them, they have to contact YOU else its ilegal and the company can press heavy charges!
best thing to do is give ur clients a hint. just say "sorry i no longer work for Smith Co i am moving to Jones Co *nudge nudge, wink wink*" they can then call you. but whatever you do dont call them from your next job - ur previous company could seriously take you to the cleaners (couldnt think of a better phrase
