Asda Direct misleading estimated pick up date.

Options
I ordered an item from Asda Direct to pick up from my local store and received an email to say that the estimated day for pick up would be today (17th).

I hadn't heard anything since so gave CS a call to find out if it was ready or not. They told me that the item hadn't arrived yet and the estimated date given didn't really mean anything and I should disregard this. They told me that it takes up to 7 working days to arrive at the store which could mean that the item wouldn't arrive until next Monday!

I don't understand why they bother to give out an estimated date if they can't ensure the item arrives anytime close to that day! If the email stated clearly 'up to 7 working days' I would probably not have even placed the order as I need it sooner than that.

Is it just me or is this a case of Asda overpromising something they can't deliver on?

A friend has just ordered a sat nav from asda direct, went to collect from store only to find they have lost it. They are now out of stock of the one she ordered which was a tomtom at around £80, and the next price point is £120... they could only offer a refund and she is now without the satnav which she ordered in advance for a special trip. She is not a happy bunny...and I think I will be steering clear of asda direct !

It is an estimated pick up date, they never actually promised you that it would be there on the 17th.

That's true but why even give a date at all if it could be wrong by a week?

If it is actually 7 working days why not just tell me that when I place the order rather than make up some random day it may or may not arrive on?

Hi, I've had this problem with them aswell. I ordered a birthday gift and I had to phone Customer Services serveral times to find out where it was and when it would be at the store. After 3 attempts someone at CS actually phoned the store and they'd had it for most of the time but just not told me! The online order tracker still said was just ordered, so you can't trust that either.
Not great service at all, if they give you a date and can't meet it, they should email, text or call to advise you...simple.
