Hays recruitment shafting temps!

Hi
After doing a little research in the last few days I realise Hays recruitment are not the most popular agency amongst its staff!
So not here to complain...but wonder if anyone can offer advice??
I have never temped before, but after leaving my last permanent role in December I applied for a job through Hays and after attending an informal interview at my local Hays office, and two interviews with the client I was offered the job - the Hays recruitment consultant called me to offer the job @ £15.22 ph, which i accepted.
I started just before xmas and received my first payslip last week - I have my 30.00 hours (short week due to bank hol) x £15.22 gross pay BUT a deduction of nearly £50.00 on the line below for 'holiday pay'.
I work out this deduction actually means I am getting paid £13.58 ph. Call my recruitment consultant who says " oh sorry i thought id explained how we deduct holiday pay when you came in"....err NO!!!
I have looked at my contract which does state 'for the avoidance of doubt after decutions for seperate holiday pay arrangements, tax, NI and any other deductions required by law the temporary worker will be paid a basic rate which shall be lower than the premium rate quoted above and more particularised in the Assignment Confirmation Letter'.
So...they have covered themselves BUT i have not had an assignment confirmation letter - and of course if I had have received one before starting my contract i would have raised the issue at that point (maybe this is their ploy...get people into the job then let them know they are getting £2.5k per annum less than they thought!).
Do I have any recourse or right to complain?
Thanks for any advice (and in return...my piece of advice - never use Hays!!)

search the threads there are innumerable posts regarding Hays and their holiday pay policy. I've temped for hays, albeit over two years ago, and had the same issue. On the plus side you do get the money back paid seperately from your temp salary when you finish the contract. From memory, but perhaps someone who temps through Hays can confirm this, you get the holiday pay 8 weeks once you've stopped working for them.0

You can complain but I doubt it will get you anywhere at all. They are one of the few agencies that include holiday pay in their advertised hourly rate (in fact, I don't actually know of any others myself). They probably won't change this because (as you found out) they already have you 'in' by the time you realise.0 -

Best Connection did,(A horrible agency to work for) quoted their rates inclusive of holiday pay. They may have changed that now.You only found that out after you applied which was misleading but you had the opportunity to take it or leave it. I think if anyone wants to work for an agency some responsibility should be on them to check what benefits they should be getting before starting the role.0
