  • You will need to sort this out for your sake and aalso your Dad's sake. I can see why he's angry. It 's not a minor thing to have your credit rating zonked by someone else. I would ask the Baliffs how they came by your contact address at your Dad's house and tell them that they've breached the Data protection Act and can be fined or worse.

if it hasnt been to court yet, it was probably a debt collector....not a bailiff....

as far as your father credit rating is concerned, he needs to get copies of his credit record from the agencies and see what if anything is recorded there. there is no need for his record to be affected by this as he presumably has no financial links with you. I cant see how it can affect his girlfriends job.

presumably he and you share the same surname?

is he sure they were actual bailiffs and not simply debt collectors?

presumably you actually owe this debt? if they take you to court its important that you attend and explain your circumstances.
  • Hi This is very upsetting for all concerned but DON'T PANIC - that is exactly what these people want to happen.First of all are they actually baliffs rather than debt collectors? I thought that baliffs have to have a court order and if they are saying that your payment won't keep the matter out of court they sound like a Debt Collection Agency. There is lots of good advice on this forum about how to deal with DCAs - use the Search this Forum function near the top of the page. You should get a copy of your credit report to see how you have been linked with your dad's address - this can be done on a free trial basis via Quidco https://www.quidco.co.uk (don't forget to cancel before the trial ends).Good luck
