They would not be able to set up an insurance without a signature.
Unless you have signed something without reading it, it happens.
And you dont have to have insurance with the Halifax, you can take insurance with
    whoever you want.

Check with them and ask them to send you a signed copy of your agreement.

Dont cancel your own insurance that you have set up, they will charge you for cancellation.

Probably a bank 'adviser' looking for extra points.

As said previously call them and ask for agreements you signed.

many mortgage applications for tied sales reps of the lenders include tick boxes for home insurance and payment protection.

There is no doubt that Halifax would expect their MA to ensure that you know exactly what you're buying.

I think you should make a complaint about what has happened as well as cancelling the policy.

this does sound rather odd, and I wouldnt think any decent bank would try just to slam such an important product when things are so regulated.

they usually do a quote while sorting the mortgage, i very much doubt they could of done it without your knowledge and how would they get details about the property or level of cover you need for your belongings without asking, and surely if a payment plan was set up it would have showed on your direct debits!?

Call them explain the situation, even better go back to the person who sorted the mortgage/insurance, if necessary show them proof of your alternative cover, and they have no choice but to cancel as you dont need or cant have two covers in place. Also as i think it so new if you havent already cancel the direct debit so you wont pay anything.
  • yes there is a tick box on the mortgage app regards other insurances however i would have thought you would have at lease had a quotation somewhere too probably within your mortgage paperwork, they will have just given you the best cover and they know your house details obviously cos they are providing a mortgage on it!!

Like someone has already said just show them a copy of your other insurance schedule and they should just provide a full refund without question.

hi it is a late response but ...

i called halifax and they cancelled.

as to the big company regulated by law. yes you would think so....

while applying for mortgage yes she did quote but she just mentioned between the lines about it and i said i dont want it. she said it is just quote, if you want it you will have to sign later paperwork. and i didnt sign a page, even for my mortgage believe it or not.

judging by how quick and self explanatory (is word like that exist:o) they have cancelled it, there is more cases like that:(
