Hi there,
I have a gas heater in my room which is from the stone age so i'm a bit cagey about using it to heat my room, I'm convinced i'll gas myself.
I'm going instead to buy a portable, plug into the electricity type fan heater/radiator...
Can anyone recommend a good one for as cheap as possible? If so where can I get them from?
Thank you in advance

These really do eat electricity. I used to have one I got it in Home Bargians but it was using a hell of a lot of units and I used to use it before I went to bed
Now i wear a thick jumper in the house bought a 4.5 tog duvet they are cheap at woolworths and tescos and use that on top of your duvet so I am snug at night. I am sure not only is it cheaper it is safer.0 -
if you rent your place the landlord is obliged by law to have all gas appliances checked, if you own it why not have it checked when you have your boiler service or/and buy a carbon monoxide alarm0

If you do want to stick with a non-gas radiator, the oil-filled ones (like these) http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&searchTerms=oil-filled+radiator&go.x=0&go.y=0
are far more economical, as once the oil heats up, it retains the heat, whereas the second you switch the fan heaters off, you can feel the room starting to get cold.
An electric blanket to keep the bed rather than the whole room warm is also a very economical method of heating.0 -
the most efficient solution may be a radiant electric heater sometimes called halogen/quartz heaters (they heat you directly rather than heating the air which then heats you).

however, i would not recommend them for use during the night (while you are asleep) or if you have children because the element gets very hot - you need to use an oil filled one for that.0
