with the new rules regarding motorcycles being eligible for plant and machinary and 100percent fya can i claim 100 percent of cost against my tax and can i still claim 24p per mile or not is it one or the other i do not understand tax very well im maybe going to become a delivery driver how wud i be best doing it

  • As I understand it you have the choice of owning the motor bike and being allowed the 24 p per mile off you business profits OR you can prepare full accounts of the cost of running the motorbike, including the free depreciation (ie write off the capital cost like having a van) and then apportion the result between private and business use.
    Obviously if there is no private use, or if you are registered for VAT then the latter method should make more sense.

    I don't know from practical experience but I'm surprised that there has not been a fellow despatch rider or an accountant along to answer the question for you.
