Tiffany's Exchange!!

Options
Hi, I bought a ring for my partner from tiffany's for christmas. Unfortunately it was too small, so in line with their return policy I sent it back for exchange to the correct size. It arrived yesterday and is fine. However, I have just check my bank and they have charged me £15. They have done this, because since I bought the ring they have increased the price by £15. Surely they can't just debit my account and surely they should stick to the original price of purchase. I'm pretty sure if it was on sale they wouldn't have refunded me the difference?! Their returns policy is as follows:

'To return or exchange your gift selection please follow the instructions included with your package.
Alternatively non-faulty merchandise will be accepted at Tiffany & Co. locations in the United Kingdom excluding those concession based (Harrods, Selfridges Oxford Street & Manchester) and additionally excluding those airport based (Heathrow T5 & T3). Merchandise will be available for refund, or exchange (excluding any shipping charges) providing it is returned in the same saleable condition as when purchased, within 30 days of the date of purchase and if accompanied by the original sales receipt. Refunds will be issued to the original form of tender.'

Any advice welcome!

Thanks

  • Seems fair enough, would have thought they would let you know about the £15 though.

Doesn't seem fair to me, I'd be straight on the phone.
  • Agree with Zandoni, I think it's unfair so call them up and get them to fix it.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Thank goodness for that! I thought I was being unreasonable for a minute. Don't see how they can just debit my account without permission, nevermind charge me an amended amount that I didn't agree to!
  • Where did they get your account details from? Surely they cannot hold onto anybodys account details just in case they decide to charge them again? Did you pay by debit/credit card? If so the card details should have been destroyed or hidden to make sure they cannot be stolen and used???
  • Bought it online on my debit card. I did wonder about that, seems almost illegal, but thought I was being melodramatic.
  • As a retailer I am not allowed to store anybodys card details and there is a huge fine etc...if I fail to comply. I would be more concerned at how this happened in the first place. Was it an internet order or di you buy it from a retailer?
  • It was an internet purchase from Tifffany direct.
  • If I get an internet order I can only access the payment details once. I never write them down or save them as I cannot guarantee the level of security required for this. So I just put the card details into the pdq and job done! I have absolutely no reason to keep payment details. I cannot speak for others only my experience but we are always been told about keeping card details safe etc...so that people cannot take money from your account as and when. Its very confusing. I would imagine there is someone on here with more knowledge who can advise you.

ebay/amazon/cdwow/hmv/7dayshop/my broadband provider ALL have my card details and it works for me...if you can't provide secure storage of my details you need to think again about your business model. Joeysdub...come back and comment when you know what you are talking about!
