I think a lot of places have applications online now. I know Next is one of them. They don't advertise instore where I am, just says the website.

yes most places do it all online, i said what i said in my last reply because i didnt want you wasting your time and paper in giving a cv to supermarkets eg tesco, sainsburys, asda when they may well just throw the application in the bin

Thanks. I've done most of mine online. Went out and have given my CV in by hand to some though. The main thing is that I'm getting out there.

Anyone seriously looking for work has my utmost respect as when I was looking I found the whole experience soul destroying. The constant rejections plunged me into a heavy depression and I then had to deal with that as well as look for work.
This has to be the biggest issue. I'd like to give those politicians who think it is easy to get a job a piece of my mind

I did some voluntary work, though I had to give it up because it was costing me a fortune in fuel to leave my son with my mum who lives about 8 miles away. I was gutted because I was volunteering at a primary school as a teaching assistant and I absolutely loved it. It's a shame my mum hasn't got a car. If I were working at the school it would have been a different story.
Someone would still be paying for the petrol. IMO if they were getting your time for free they should have at least paid your transport costs.

I can understand there are instances where places cannot get funding for jobs/certain tasks. I can't help but feel in some cases voluntary positions are more an abuse of people desperate to get into work in a world where there are so few jobs. I suspect the number of voluntary jobs shot up ever since the introduction of minimum wage legislation.
Wanted a job, now have one.

I've always wanted to gain a TEFL. I thought it would be good to help those who come here with no English language knowledge.

Sorry but you need CELTA not TEFL to be able to do that.

TEFL is teaching English as a Foreign Language and is needed by English teachers teaching abroad.

Teaching English to foreigners here in UK comes under English as a Second Language (not a foreign language) and the certificate you need for this is CELTA....

All the best in this anyway :)

I find it very depressing although have only been in the Job Centre twice as have been on JSA since 1st December only and still on Stage1 (whetever that means).

They are not able to help me in any way, they are patronising and unrealistic - I apply for jobs via specialist (IT) agencies and they suggest I look in a local paper.... sigh... Some of the advisers are unable to even categorise the type of job I am looking for and obviously suggesting things that are tottaly unsuitable (for variety of reasons).

Their own website is total rubbish, lots of jobs do nto even specify the salary and when I told them I am not applying for jobs if I do not see what money they offer - they were shocked, they did not know that EVERY job on other websites has the salary specified... sigh....

    Very depressing...

You are going to get a shock at thirteen weeks - then you cannot limit the jobs you apply for by sector or by salary.
    Gone ... or have I?
