in Cutting tax
I have received notification today that my tax code has gone down from 647L to 638L. I am at a loss as why this has occured and my attempts to contact them or naviagate the website to try and answer my queiries have been futile!
They say that we have changed your tax code for the year and it has gone down. "This means that between 6/4/2010 and the date my work used the old for the last time i will have had the benefit of too much tax free amount and therefore owe tax" They work this out to be about £15.29 but they will work this out at the end of the year to let me know how much this is (i have checked my code currently being used and it is still 647l)
They have changed my code due to info given by my work? I am not able to contact anyone at the moment, but thought someone out there may be able to shed some light on it! Can anyone help why this might have been.
I am a standard rate tax payer, no company car etc but i do get petrol money for any business miles that i do at a rate of 47p. Would this cause a deduction. I have been working for them for 3 yrs and always just had the standard tax code.
Weird thing is they sent me a cheque last week as they said i had underpaid!!!!!

47p is more than you are allowed to receive tax free, so that may be the problem. The tax free rate is 40ppm.0

Surely you mean overpaid and hence a refund.
That would have been for an earlier year so not really relevant to your current tax code change. The coding notice showing the new code should show what the deduction is for. What does it say? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
