Changing Spending Habits?

Don't beat yourself up (well, not too much!). Part of the journey is building an awareness of our overspending. You've obviously achieved that already. Then it's working out what the spending is going on and adjusting accordingly. I take comfort from the number of times posters say we won't meet our targets all the time and that it's especially hard for beginners. When I've done my shop tonight I reckon I've got £20 to last me until 1st Feb. It'll be a challenge - especially figuring out what to do for work lunches!

It's really difficult not to spend a lot in supermarkets. I don't know how people stay on a tight budget food wise. We (dd and I) don't eat very much meat, no alcohol, no ready meals or junk food but we do eat a lot of fresh fruit and veg, yoghurts too and I'm always amazed at how much it comes to at the till! It's really not that difficult to spend £100 for a family of 4 like yours! It's not always worth going from shop to shop to save a few pennies with the price of petrol either!

Everything has gone up so much since the beginning of January (and the offer are always on stuff I don't want to buy :rolleyes:)

Aw, thanks for being so lovely to me! I'm still annoyed with myself though as I really wanted to put £30 towards my debts this week, and now I can't. I really shouldn't go to Tescos (it's huge, their biggest one I think), Morrisons next week for me! At least the storecupboard is well stocked anyway

I use MySupermarket.com to check for offers and then work meal plan around those. Mysupermarket will also tell you which shop is cheapest for what, ie between Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury & Ocado. I buy my fruit and veg from Aldi or the local market or farm shop. If Asda or Tesco come out cheapest overall then I sometimes have it delivered but not often because it's usually cheaper to get some from each.

Shopping around certainly helps me save some money.

Thanks Denise. I've never used Mysupermarket, does it take a long time? Is it a total faff? Whenever I do my shopping online it takes me ages! Longer than driving to the supermarket, shopping, coming home and unpacking it! x x

How about shopping online?Maybe you spend more if its a big tescos.

I am proud of myself tonite,cooker wouldnt come on,hubby suggested a takeawayand I said NNNNOOOOO.Got cooker working instead so 20.00 towards moving fund.whoo hoo.

I have started a spending diary and got really strict with myself and hubby.We need to if we want to move.
