Due to ill health there is a possibility my employer could look to dismiss me on capability grounds.
Due to my service and terms of employment I have calculated that I would receive approximately 4 months salary.
I am aware that losing/selling my home is a possibility, but I will be looking for further employment that I might be able to fit around my health problems.
My question is, if I receive a lump sum pay off, would the mortgage company expect me to pay the full amount due each monh, or would they consider me making interest payments only for a short period of time until I can find a job, or if it comes to it, sell the house.
Thanks

There really is no one size fits all answer for your question, you could ask them after explaining the situation.
Would you be eligible for disability benefits?
do you have dependants in the house ?
is there another wage coming in to the house ?Space available for rent0 -

According to every doctor and consultant I have spoken to, including the occupational health guy from Capita my employer sent me to, I should be a shoe in for DLA, however I have been refused 3 times, twice on appeal.

Yes I have 2 children, plus my wife.
is there another wage coming in to the house ?
My wife works part time, approximately £350 per month. My salary is approx £1200 per month and mortgage £450mth.
Obviously the first thing that will happen is my wife will try and get more hours at work, but obviously this isn't going to be easy, and as the job is more or less safe, leaving may not be the best option. Perhaps she may be able to get another p/t job if I cannot find work.
As I said earlier, selling the house may have to become an option. Were no so deluded as to think the house is safe. It may not even become a problem as I'm only guessing at my employers possible actions, but it is better to be prepared I say. I may even be lucky enough to go straight back into employment.
I will try and contact the mortgage company to find out what my options are.
Thanks.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Surely, if you have been refused DLA on three occassions then your employer would find it difficult to dismiss you on grounds of health?0

I wish that was the case.Let_Us_See wrote: »Surely, if you have been refused DLA on three occassions then your employer would find it difficult to dismiss you on grounds of health?
My problem is I suffer from chronic pain in my right knee. I can barely walk, and cannot take a single step without being in pain. I need a knee replacement, unfortunately I can't have one until i'm around 50 (this has been confirmed to me by the hospital) unless I pay for it myself. So i have another 20 years or so of pain to suffer through.
My wife has to help me in and out of the bath, I can't cook a main meal as i use a stick to walk about so don't have the use of 2 hands to carry hot trays/pans etc. I would be at danger of slipping if i were to spill anything.
I need help to get up and down stairs and to get out of bed.
The pain has also brought on depression and anxiety attacks.
Unfortunately the last tribunal was more concerned with the fact I actually went to work and refused it on the basis that despite how much pain it causes me, I go to work when I physically can.
As I said all my consultants, and the guy from capita, who himself told me he has sat on these DLA tribunals, said I should be a show in for it.
Effectively my employer can get rid of me due to the amount of time I have had off. This latest absence has been going on 3 months already, and my pay is due to run out on 21 February, so whether I am fit or not i'm going to have to go back to work, but it's just going to make me worse.
At the end of the day I'll probably have to sell the house if I'm let go. Get a private rent and a part time job and see where we go from there.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Have you considered writing to your MP about not getting the knee op? I realise there may be medical grounds for refusing the op (replacement knees do wear out, for example), but when my father was being given the run around over a heart op in approx 2006 a letter to Tony Blair and his local MP (copied in to the Chief Exec of the hospital) got the ball rolling amazingly swiftly. Worth thinking about, anyhow :-)0

Agree with the have another go at the GP/hospital/NHS they are stalling, if they say it can be done private there can't be medical grounds not to do it.
Anyway you can get yourself into hospital as an in patient(nasty fall and ambulance call, from work even better) that can sometime make things happen if the bed gets blocked (can't go home too scared you will do it again the anxiety).0 -
Thats very sly of you getmore4less and as a paramedic I am busy enough thanks !
But write to your MP,the condems, prime minister, minister in charge of the NHS and the chief exec of the hospital refusing to give you a knee operation.
Ask your employer if they will pay for you to have a private operation !
You dont give your LTV,value of property or size of mortgage but your lender may allow you to go onto Interest only for a year or so.
Good Luck0 -
LTV is approx 80% going by the current lenders index, although I'm sure, based on the condition of the property and the recent sales on the street that it is worth more than the £85k they say it is worth. (This is plainly fromtheir index it has not been valued by anyone for 5 years and then it was valued at £105k)
I would say based on the sales of similar properties, some of which have not been improved internally like mine, the value is closer to £95k.
Mortgage remaining is £65k with 21 years to go.
Unfortunately this has already happened and my employer refused to ring an ambulance (something to do with a call out cost I was told?)getmore4less wrote: »

I fell on the ice outside work and couldn't move. i managed with the help of a colleague to get to my desk and I was obviously in some distress. The first aider was called and they said they wanted to put a bandage on it and see how it went, but there was no crepe bandage in the first aid kit.
The first aider was refused the opportunity to go to the local chemist and buy a crepe bandage as it was in works time. I offered to pay for it but was told that if the first aider applied it and something went wrong they could be sued by me.
So I asked for an ambulance and they refused so i had to phone a taxi from my mobile phone to collect me from outside work and take me to the hospital.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Spoke to mortgage company today. They say they can't discuss it until they know what money I have coming in. So i'm still none the wiser. Plus they charge £250 to go onto interest only payments.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
