Official reciever question please

My husband was made bankrupt on the 3rd of Dec and had his meeting with O.R. on the 21st Dec. He supplied everything that was required but as yet nothing has happened. The bank or any of his creditors have not been informed yet does it usually take this long we thought it would be immediately after seeing him.Of course the telephone is starting to ring so he wrote a letter to bank ect.telling them he was made bankrupt and giving O.R. name address and bankruptcy no.Is it o.k to do this or should we have waited.Don't want to contact O.R BECAUSE HE WASNT PARTICULARLY NICE!
THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • The receiver dealing with your husbands case has up to 8wks to notify any creditors

If they persist tell them your bankruptcy details and thats all they need to know (as you've already done), I know it can be very upsetting BUT it will get a little easier, if it does persist you sadly will have to contact the receivers office its something they will deal with on your behalf who knows they may be better than last time

It all depends on how busy the OR office is plus you had the holidays to contend with. I still received mail from creditors 8 months in to my BR.

  • I think all ORs are very overworked bees at the moment!
It took at least 4 weeks for the majority of our creditors to stop calling after we went BR, and I knew the OR had up to 8 weeks to contact them all. Nothing wrong with giving your OR details to any creditor who rings you :).

    Understatement of the Year!!!!!

I would suggest that in the meantime you write to each creditor and include a copy of your Bankruptcy Notice.

  • I was declared BR in October and contacted by the OR soon after. Everything has gone quiet from my creditors and the OR wrote to me last week to notify me of the amount they want me to pay each month, beginning 1st Feb. I signed the agreement and sent it off, but am wondering how the money is taken. I am aware it's not long in direct debt terms until the beginning of Feb and I don't want to miss a payment. Also, the OR hasn't to see any bank statements, bills etc. Should I expect this? I'm desperate to have a cathartic clear out!

Finally, my boss offered me a pay rise today! Is there any point in accepting it or will it all be taken by my creditors?

    Thanks in advance.

Re the pay rise I would say that if you have an ipa you may as well take it. At the end of the day when your ipa is finished you will be left with a higher salary. Also if you have company pension etc. these are often based on basic salary.

I went BR on 3rd december too :) had my phone interview I think around the 17th or something? can't remember! anyway similar circumstances and i've just answered the phone to any creditors and told them that i'm BR and most have accepted that. I've had a couple of letters from creditors acknowleding my BR that I haven't spoken to, so I assume that the OR has told those ones. Its been alright so far, just waiting for the agreement to be sent to pay my £14 per month to moonbeever! just take the phone calls and reply to any letters if you can - its easier than just ignoring them coz as soon as u tell them you're BR and give them all your details they are normally ok with it - in my experience so far anyway!
