    You should get 44.8 hrs per year as paid time off.

    35 ish of that relates to non-BH related days, 9 ish to BH related days - but as you work Saturdays that is rarely gonna affect you.

    Out of interest, did you get paid for Xmas Day just gone? And if yes, did you take it as Holiday time from your 33hrs, or did it come out of the remaining hours you'd be due?

    It's possible your Employer has a swanky 'puter programme that works it all out exactly for each Calendar Year (or Leave Yyear), and the 33hrs is what you get 'free choice' over - the rest are Mandatory.

    Ask HR tomorrow - I'm sure they'll explain it.

    How long have you worked for your current employer?

    One explanation could be that he leave is accumulative and you need to have a full year of employment for full entitlement.

    Have you taken any leave this year holiday year?

    When does the employer's holiday year start and finish?

    However, it is not generally accepted that the twenty eight days include bank holidays. Yes, a lot of employers do use the bank holidays as part of the minimum entitlement, but thankfully, the majority of employees enjoy their full entitlement and public holidays.

    I think you will find that 28+8 is not that common.

    I think you'll find that it is more common than you think. Many of my colleagues offer the full entitlement and bank holidays to their employees.

    A survey in 2009 found the median was 25+ and that included public sector which is often on the generous side so in the real word 28+ is unlikely to be as common.

    The largest UK employer NHS starts on 27+ allthough that goes up to 29+ after 5y and after 33 after 10.

    I've been there about 2 years.
    As for holiday, it hasn't reset yet, but i had used it all up last year.

    I'm not sure when the holiday year starts or finishes though.

    @jfdi: Without trying to find my playslip, i'm sure i got paid for it, and i didn't take it as holiday time.
    As for their "swanky computer system" I have heard of it not getting everyones hours right. Also, apparently some bank holidays they aren't counting as bank holidays.

    For someone who works only on Saturdays, bank holidays have no relevance to the time they get as leave.

    As Christmas Day was a Saturday in 2010, that does count as it was paid. Was New Year's Day a working day or a holiday?

    It's important to know when the holiday year runs - to know whether New Year's Day 2011 may be included in a 2010-11 holiday year or whether the holiday year is a calendar year.

    The employer uses the words "essential user" but I do not believe that is a phrase used in the legislation. Sounds as though they are making it up.

    Any way, if a checkout operator has to use a display screen to carry out their work then clearly it is essential that they use it.

    It's not about whether they can look away as they deal with customers, it is a matter of whether they are using the screen for a significant part of their day.

    Just found the Holiday start/end
    The holiday year begins on the 1st April and ends on 31st March each year.
    So, it hasn't ended yet. the store was closed on new years day, and we all got paid for it.

    I'll try to email them but they don't have any contacts on the intranet.
