Ok, not exactly moneysaving as it's free anyway but people on here seem to know about everything so thought I'd ask! Just been asked this by a friend and have no idea myself.
Does anyone know where you can get a prescription for a contraceptive pill other than from your GP? (Not the emergency pill) Can you get them from NHS walk in centres?

No, you cannot get it from a walk in centre. The only other options are a family planning clinic or a private GP.Gone ... or have I?0

Ring NHS Direct 0845 46 47 and see if they have any ideas.
Don't know if you could get that pill that delays your period at short notice from Boots or somewhere or just the doctor? Don't know if that would work as a contraceptive? If not then maybe that and condoms? Don't know about health risks though as I've only delayed periods when I haven't been on the actual pill.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Most chemists will prescribe in an emergency as long as the drug is not on the restricted list. If your friend goes to her normal chemist and ask they can give one month packet which will be off set against her prescription as soon as she gets it
I have often got drugs needed for myself an other family members this way. ESP over holiday times when there's no chance of getting a gp appointment0 -
if you have a local sexual health clinic nearby you can just walk in and see someone. I did this a while ago, got my implant removed and got put on the pill within a morning - didnt even make an appointmentMFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

you can sometimes get a private prescription from a pharmacy for one month's supply. the cost will be scary. hope she sorted something out in time - been there myself and had a panic too!:happyhear0

Thanks for all the replies. She was able to pick up a one month prescription from the GP without needing an appointment in the end (she normally gets a year in one go so they won't give her that long a prescription without a check up) - but it's good to know what can be done in future!0
