That is a really enlightening article. Coincidently ( notice i didn't say weirdly) I was only talking about how we may be back to a four day week on electricity supplies and was laughingly joking about stocking up on candles.:cool:

Well I think it's significant that it is someone "in the business" who is talking about this now. It has been an open secret for years. Somebody in Government must have brown-trousered over this...
There's a little bit of context around the issue, first of all there is a submarine cable connecting outselves and the french. We draw on this cable much more than the french do. We draw on it a lot.
There is going to be an "output gap" in the UK - we're shutting down power stations before building new ones - and we are relying on the interconnect to keep us afloat. But even then it may not be enough.
And then there is the final piece of the puzzle, which never ever seems to get mentioned. The French are also expecting an "output gap" as they close down ageing nuclear power stations. From various translated statements I've seen, they seem to be expecting the crosschannel interconnector to be used to send electricity to them, to help keep them afloat during that period.
