debt help me

Firstly, sorry for your loss.
They shouldn't be able to claim the money from you. From what I remember from my days as a bank manager, although there can be a secondary card holder, only the primary card holder is responsible for the debt so credit cards are never in joint names.
For example, if I named my daughter as a secondary card holder and she ran up thousands of pounds of debt, i'm the one responsible to pay it back. Obviously, this isn't an option in your case so you'll probably need to send in the DC and it should be written off but I suppose it depends on the integrity of the bank.
If they insist you need to pay it back i'd go to the CAB for further advice.
The other thing to consider is, did you sign an agreement form? If not tell them to beat it as you haven't personally accepted T&C's.0 -
if he left an estate, then afaik any debts will have to be re-paid from it0

hello
firstly let me say I am sorry for your loss.
You are not liable to pay for his debt, although as already said it would come out of any money he has, including any benefit money paid after his death.
May I ask about funeral costs? If you have no money, as his next of kin you may be advised to go for social funding. This will pay for the greater part of the funeral but you will still be left with some costs, called disbursments (I think!).
What you may not be told is that you husband is entilted to a "contract" funeral, where the social fund or hospital will pay ALL the costs. The main diference is that there are no cars for mourners, so that you will have to go directly to the chapel and you get no choice of time/place etc. There is a religous service if you want one and friends/family may attend and will be given the ashes if they want them.
I have found that there is little advice given about this type of funeral and you may have to ask.
Good luck to you for the futureLBM-2003ish
