Vouchers/Coupons that scan without purchasing the product

Hi all,
Just wondered if it might be a good idea to have a thread where MSE's can post any vouchers/coupons that they find that can be used without purchasing the product.
Would be nice if you could put what the voucher is for, where you got it, how much its worth and where it can be spent.
Thanks all.

i think generally most of them work....should be interesting though:grouphug:0

Indeed most do, I have used vouchers today for milk, magazines, cordial, books, butter and various other items without purchasing the products. If the voucher is NCH barcoded and non-store specific than usually they scan through with no problems.

I take it that you're talking about scanning coupons through at a self-service checkout? If so, what is the supermarket's position on this? Do they know, and condone, that you use barcodes from products you haven't bought to reduce your bill?
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising... I just want to check whether this is ethical and accepted behaviour, or whether it's something you can get thrown out of the store for....0 -

Welcome to MSE!!
Tesco, Asda and Waitrose have an established policy to accept coupons without buying the product. I never use self-scan, always go to a cashier, and they always scan some for me.
Yes it's ethical, legal etc. It's the stores that are technically being fraudulent accepting the coupons, not the customer offering them as payment.
As a newbie, I would recommend you go to the top of this page, 'search Chat forum' for 'coupons' and read some threads going back into the depths of time.....then you will know what we know......!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Also, have to agree with superkev and Welsh dragon, most coupons will scan without buying the product. This is even true in Sainsburys (who do not have the policy mentioned above) as their tills cannot tell if you have bought the product. It is also true of out-of-date coupons, they will scan too.
If I was to post here every coupon I have in my stash that will scan without the product I would be on here for weeks, just doing this post alone.
It's easier to say what won't scan this way. One example would be coupons with Tesco store logo on them. These do not scan in Tesco unless you buy the product.

I think Asda are getting tough on coupons/vouchers.......they check if you have bought the item relating to the coupon and only one coupon/voucher per transaction! Sainsbury's do not check the coupon/vouchers thoroughly? Are they more relaxed about these things?0

IMHO Sainsburys are not usually relaxed about this, I only managed to get 3 coupons accepted the other day by luck (the cashier saw I had bought one of the 3 different products and assumed, I suppose, that I had bought all of them as I had handed the coupons over so confidently). That's what comes of being a prolific coupon-user in Tesco!
Asda seem to have changed their tills to only accept £3 max or 10% of transaction, following their faux-pas with the magazine coupons recently (they scanned for the full price of the product).
See the Magazine Vouchers thread for full details of a 50p coupon that scans for £4.50 in the current free Asda mag...but use it in Tesco as Asda will no doubt be aware of their latest error by now!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
