Need help cleaning beech laquered/varnished table

I've bought a beech granite table off ebay. Didn't look closely enough when I picked it up and on getting it home there's gunge on top along with cat/dog hairs.

I've tried washing it down with diluted Stardrops. That wasn't too sucessful so used a neat spray of stardrops. The hairs have gone but I got a bit worried as it seems to have stippled/crackled the gunge or maybe the varnish?

Can anyone suggest what I could clean it with that won't affect the varnish or laquer? The granite I can sort.

I don't really want to have to sand it down & revarnish it so hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.
