Laid off, got arrears....

Hiya,
Hubby got laid off 3 times last year with a total of 6 weeks out of work. Couldnt claim on any ppi as he was only off for 2 weeks at a time. Losing 6 weeks wages equates to nearly £2000 so we have arrears on our secured loan with welcome. Had an agreement in place but since Hubby got new job just before Christmas (secure, no lay offs) he had no holidays to cover his wages for the christmas period. Welcome have actually called out to our house whilst we were at work and left a letter saying we have been charged £25. Can they do this? I know they charge for home visits but surely they should let you know when they intend to come?
Its a secured loan and has ppi which i am going to try and claim back, they were aware of the nature of hubbys job and it is very unlikely he would ever be off work for more than a couple of weeks....
Any advice mucho appreciated ;)

Sounds like you may have a case for misselling PPI then. What I would suggest is doing a thorough budget and seeing how much money you have towards debt repayments - obviously a secured loan is a priority debt. I think you would need to try and offer to catch up the arrears. If you have unsecured debts then you may need to make token payments to them while you catch up on the secured loan as it is a priority debt.
You may also wish to seek advice from National Debtline or CCCS or CAB if you are struggling - perhaps there are other benefits you can claim?
