Pay rise request

Paul thanks for your valid points.I know you mentioned that a male work colleague got a pay rinse and you didn't. Do you know if this takes his pay higher than yours [I am assuming he does 'work of similar value' - it does not to be exactly the same job]? !
Yes we do exactly the same job, he started 10 months (to be precise) after me and got a payrise in 2009 and 2010. We are 'friends' and talk openly about this. Actually I do more because I deal UK client base and overseas (because I speak a second language) they dont so they only deal with UK clients! Also, have the new starters that have been taken on been male or female?. Do you enjoy the work you do? Do you get on well with your colleagues? is your journey to and from work reasonable? Is the working environment good? Is the company stable and does it seem to be weathering the recession?so I feel 'good' about it.
the job is 'secure' especially as they have openly claimed that are sales are up again and doing well.
I love my job but I cant help but feel humiliated and unapprecciated for not being paid the same as someone who started 3 years after me and dont have a clue about what they are doing! Paying a 20years (with no financial commitments) old 2 to 4k more than an experienced and (olderperson with a family to feed who has already shown loyality and good work, whereas the 20 years old is biting time whilst looking for another job
.
So becaue I enjoy my job I would prefer not to have to leave but if they will not reconsider I will move but I will take my time and be very choosy on the next job.Final thought. You mention that you help out other colleagues. Is this part of your role - or do you do this out of the goodness of your heart?
If I were to say that I was busy they would ask someone else and I would look 'out of order'. The boss is not always around to answer questions.
In fact when they started he asked me to shadow them and give them some training!0
