Lidl sell ready charged slow drain rechargeable batteries as a special at £3 for 4.
Worth looking out for as they last 100 years or 1000 uses depending which comes first.

I find that the Duracell Plus and Energiizer Ultra batteries, are pretty much low entry batteries, with not a great life.
If you've got a John Lewis near you, or can make your order up to £30 for free delivery, they do the Panasonic Xtreme AA http://www.johnlewis.com/230502501/Product.aspx and AAA for £6.95 for 24. I use these often, and find that they are near equivalent to the Duracell Ultra. Much longer life.

I tend to go for the high power ones. Works out cheaper in the end.
