What's the best option?

Hi all,

I've just signed up as I'm in a bit of money trouble :( It's not loads in comparison to what debt some of the people on here are in, but it's the most I've ever been in and it's put me in a situation this month where I haven't been able to pay my rent, money I owe to family, car insurance and I have no money to get to work and back for the rest of the month. I share a house with two of my brothers so I just pay a set amount each month for all rent and bills. I know I can mange the debts monthly from the next pay day onwards but its just this gap now of two weeks where I can't afford to get to work. I've borrowed money of everyone I can and I don't really want to go down the route of pay day loans, especially as I know that will just continue to give me problems in the following months. Is it worth me putting down my SOA? I hate this feeling, as I know it's my fault for not managing my money. I don't want to tell anyone if I can avoid it either, it's too embarrassing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I don't know what to do :(

    Hi and welcome

How much are you short of until payday? what of those are essential you pay this month? you are right to try to stay away from payday loans. Have you tried asking your employer if they will give you an advance? you don't need to tell them why or you could even fib and say you had an unexpected cost (boiler blew up or similar). Do you have an overdraft? have you tried to ask for a temporary extension to your overdraft?
Anything you could sell to raise some money?

Its probably worth still doing a statement of affairs for future and so you don't end up with another month like this one and to ensure you have budgeted for all expenses etc, but at a guess its not going to fix the problems you have in the next 2 weeks.

  • I totally agree - stay away from payday loans - I have three outstanding now i borrowed from one to pay the other! Its not a good idea!

How far are you from work? Can you get a lift, walk or borrow a bike?

Will your brothers feed you in return for you doing something for them, or perhaps being responsible for feeding them next month for a few weeks?
