FREE roleplaying game (Dark Dungeons)

Options
For those who don't know what roleplaying games are, I'm talking of a tabletop game played with books, dice, character sheets and (optionally) miniatures. This is not a thread about a computer game. If you are looking for a free computer game, then this is not the thread you are looking for.

The most famous RPG is Dungeons & Dragons. There have been many editions of D&D over the years and the current version is 4th edition D&D (from Wizards of the Coast).

Some people want to continue to play the previous "old school" versions of D&D, but with the books being out of print, it can be hard to get hold of them.

Recently, there has been a trend to make games that emulate the out of print versions of D&D and create games known as "retro-clones". Dark Dungeons is a retro-clone very similar to Classic D&D (Original D&D) versions known as RC and BECMI.

Dark Dungeons can be downloaded for free as a PDF book. (It is always going to be free, so this is not a "only the first 100 customers" kind of thing.)

There are a few versions of this freebie. One is a colour one, intended to be looked at on a computer, and the others are versions designed for people who want to print the book out or take it to a print shop for printing.

The creator of Dark Dungeons, has also done a deal with Lulu, for anyone who wants to buy a physical copy of the book. He doesn't get paid commission on the book sales, so the price there is quite low, but if you are thinking of buying the book, I would suggest you download the free PDF first (to check it is right for you). There is nothing in the printed version, that is not in the PDF.

You can read more (and get the free game) at the Dark Dungeons website.
