Mole Removal?

Options
I've seen a thread on here about laser mole removal but that is private.

I'm 19, don't think it makes much difference. I have a few moles on my body and am quite concious about them. Especially a couple near the top of my chest, very noticeable and makes it hard to wear low collar tops as i hate it been on show. I don't like to take my top off in front of people either as i feel they really do stand out.

I have a couple on my face, not raised much and not too dark but definitely there, one on each cheek. It also annoys me very much and am also scared of cutting it while shaving, i have cut them before and bleeding really makes me feel sick. Also the thought of needles and actually having them make me feel i'll, i have fainted before just before i was about to have a needle.

Do you think its even worth going to the doctor? I don't really like talking about it either.
Things that are free in life are great, well most of the time

I've had two of mine removed. I'm of a similar age and I thought it wasn't worth spending the rest of my life worrying about them, so I went to the doctor and had them removed- the first one was on my back and the second on the top of my thigh.

You will be left with a scar ( but it will fade over time). You will either have the mole shaved off (which is pretty much painless) or have it cut out which may result in stitches. I've had both of these procedures done and i'm alive to tell the tale :D. You will probably be given an local anaesthetic if you do have it cut out, which twinges a little bit. Just take your iPod and close your eyes- you won't notice it :D

It's always good to be aware of moles and their changes, and it's always worth getting any changed logged with a doctor. But similarly, they aren't worth getting worried or self conscious over. If they are causing you discomfort such as when you shave, getting it removed is a serious option. Just don't think you have to because of cosmetic reasons.

    Hope this helps.
  • If it bothers you then go see about it. The only thing is that if it's just a case of not liking the look of them then it might be considered a cosmetic procedure to remove them that would have to be done privately instead of on the NHS so it might cost you money. However, if you are concerned about the size/colour/shape of any of them and think there is a chance they could be abnormal then I'd definitely go see about them. I had a mole cut out of my back because of this - the mole was about the size of a rubber on the end of a pencil and I ended up with a big red indent of a scar about the size of a 10 pence in its place, the red has faded now but I've still got the indent in my skin - so scarring is something to think about.
