Meets minimum wage requirements

Hey there :-)

Just wondering, I have seen a few jobs on the Job Centre website and they state in the salary info "Meets national minimum wage requirements" (or something to that effect)

Would you take this to mean they will only pay minimum wage?
Also, what would minimum wage at 40 hrs a week these days equate to yearly (after tax?)

:-)

Cheers m'dears! x

  • I would say in general most likely minimum wage, or below minimum wage if the position is a self-employed one (but for that they normally bang on about assurances it is likely to earn at least minimum wage).
Wanted a job, now have one.
  • That's what I've always taken it to mean; that it's probably minimum wage.

According to The Salary Calculator it's £10,434.39 take home pay. That's at £5.93 an hour if you are 21 and over.
Debt: Started at £4780, now at £4190 :)
Comp Wins 2014: None yet :(

I've never applied for them so not sure but you might be entitled to working tax credits to top it up a bit.

It's actually 22 and over. It's actually worded over 21.

If not it's about a pound less!!

edit: oh on direct.gov it' appeared to have changed. 2 years ago it was 22 and over! Typical, I'm 23 now, why didn't I get proper minimum wage when I was 21!!! grrrrrrrrr

Not necessarily, IIRC from a previous post by someone who works in the job centre the employer has to tick a box confirming the job "Meets national minimum wage requirements" so, if they havent listed a salary the job centre automatically add the minimum wage reference.
