Im not sure thats entirely accurate, the final decision is always made by the Canadians ,and in dollars.
LOL - yup - that's 'cos we rulelol
Yes, but it still comes back here so that the applicant can offer any further information to the decision! I'm quite liking the exchange rate right now!0 -
Im not sure thats accurate either, othewise a parent can claim residency on the basis the other parent cannot support the children without government help.
Having gone through both immigration procedures and REMO procedures in BC using the British court......I'm only speaking from experience
I'm talking about residency as in 'permanent residency in Canada'......not residency as in who the children live with!0 -

You need a weak Pound.
When I worked in BC in 1988- 1990 I got 2 dollars a pound. Living costs in Dollars, pay in British Pounds (British company). That put me on a Canadian income of over $100,000 - a very substantial income of that era.0 -
The exchange rate is alot better now for me though than it was just a few years ago. When we moved here it was $2.56 CDN to the pound, Now I'm getting £1 for about $1.60 CDN region when my CDN cheques go in the account. Alot better - not quite as good as late '80's then - but I do recall the great Stateside shopping in Blaine/Bellingham in the early '90's
sorry....off topic

Thank you all. Lots of information to think about.
I am thinking his earnings are well over $19000. He was bringing home £1500 a week here, and then he was suddenly out of work within a week of us separating! So I was left with nothing!
His outgoings must be minimal. My ex sister in law says he is paying her $100 dollars a week to live with them, and then has his gas and truck insurance. Other than that there is nothing else. Apparently he drinks more than than the rent money easily!
I really dont mind if he continues to pay the £260, as its more that I need to know what and when its coming in so I can budget. I am totally stuffed this month as I had included it into my budget and he hasnt paid, so now he is behind by around £700. Its a lot of money.
He just doesnt believe that I need it. My partner earns less a month than my ex was on a week. We are only just coping. I have just sold every bit of jewellry that I owned and another 7 days till pay day.
He emailed and complained that he couldnt call the children a couple of weekends ago as the phone was permanently engaged. I emailed him back and explained that there was no money to pay the bill and it had been cut off, which is true, and that he could always facebook them and skype them, but he says he doesnt know how to use facebook or skype.
I am probaly going to cancel the phone completely as its only used when he wants to speak to the children once a month or so.
Oh, I dont know, what a mess!!!!0
