Mackenzie Hall - Debt from 4-5 yrs - address/proof of debt stuff

Hi there
Mackenzie have been contacting me by post and text for a debt i owed to O2 from a few years ago. I'd like to pay it off/settle, but first would like to sort out a few things:
a) I'd like proof of the debt - since reading some posts on here it seems the advised thing to do so that when you pay it someone else (or the same company even) do not come asking/harassing again for the debt
b) What's the actual address to send proof of debt request to?
c) Are they able to collect a debt from over 5 yrs ago (I read somewhere on here that due to them being based in Scotland they may not be allowed? -- I'm wondering if this is correct and they aren't allowed shall I just wait it out until that 5 yr period has passed?
My credit rating is fairly shot to be honest despite having cleared nearly 4000 worth of debt over the past year so I'm not too bothered about the credit rating. I've managed to do this by moving back in with my parents and working like mad but I don't want debt collectors turning up like beefed-up plankton hassling my parents when I either move out or whatever!
Cheers for any help with the above!
All the best for 2011

Have you not paid anything to MacHall yet? First thing is to send the prove it letter to the address on their last letter to you. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2
If they can prove that the debt exists then you can make arrangements or offer an F&F settlement (if you are doing a full & final settlement make sure you have it in writing from them that the money will be accepted in full & final settlement of the debt) - info here http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=24_full_and_final_settlement_offers
Them being in Scotland is not relevant. What is relevant is what part of the UK you are in/were in why you took out the original agreement. If you are in England then a debt only becomes statute barred after a period of 6years where you haven't paid towards the debt, admitted you owe the money in writing and assuming there is no CCJ on the debt.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Prove it letter may be the way to go, or if it's MH, it may just be best ignoring them altogether. Because they are NEVER able to substantiate any 'debt' they get assigned - I've never known them to do it.0
