'Overseas Transaction Fee' on internet purchases ?

Hi,

I subscribe to a US website that charges a fee of $10 per month (no... its not what you think - really !), and pay with my UK debit card, but Lloyds are stinging me. e.g. one transaction of $10 was converted at a rate of $1.50 /£ when the market rate on that day was $1.61 /£ and they added a £1 'overseas transaction fee' on top - meaning that $10 cost me £7.64 in total, and not the market rate of £6.17 it should have.

The amounts aren't anything to worry about really, it's the principle of the thing that bugs me.

What's the cheapest way for me to pay this subscription (it needs a card number) ? How about a Caxton or Fairfx dollar card and credit that in advance ? Would that be cheaper ?

Cheers !

Yes it would. I use my fairfx card for buying from US sites. You are topping up your card at a given rate, which admittedly is not as good as the inter bank bank rate, but still much better than getting charged using your debit card.
Debt free and staying that way!
