That data will be from the P800? Needs the data from your P60 (end of year statement from your employer) as well ... otherwise there's no compare. That will have the code number as well as the pay / tax? Need all 3 bits.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I've just got request for more tax from 2007/8. Its worth looking for info on ESC A19 - given on the hmrc web site - that if you thought your affairs were in order and they had failed to use the info you had provided they may agree not to collect the tax.0

I received yesterday from HMRC a letter stating that I had underpaid by the following amounts....
07/08 £1588 - PAYE code lower than amount taxable
08/09 £1980 - car benifit incl in PAYE code lower than tax amount
09/10 £1492 - car benifit incl in PAYE code lower than tax amount
I pay my tax PAYE. I have never been asked to complete a tax return.
During this time I have worked for the same employer (who I have worked for for 19 years) I have not moved house or changed address.
I was given a company car in 2007 and the company pay my buisness and private mileage. This is what seems to have caused the shortfall.
I have the P11D for 2 of these years that notify HMRC of the car I have and the arrangements regarding fuel. On both of these the cash equivalent for car/fuel is the same - I checked this on the HMRC website last night and it is still the same.
If anyone could advise me on the following.....
1. If the P11D has been sent to HMRC with all the correct details. Have I done everything I should have done?
2. In the letter it states the tax may not have be paid if they have failed to act on info received. Does this apply to my case?
3. Isnt it their job to get my PAYE code right? If it wrong surley it is not my fault and I should not have to pay? I would not pay the builder who did my extension 3 years ago if he turned up and said he had not charged me for the bricks!! I would just laugh!!
4. In the doomsday sceniero of having to pay all the outstanding. How many years would they let me pay it over? Would interest be charged?
Any advice would be very much appreciated!!0
