Watch out for them removing deals before their advertised expiry date too!
Surf washing powder was reduced from £10.21 to £5 with an advertised end date of 9th January. We ordered some for our home delivery on 7th (and it showed as £5) and when it arrived it was billed at £10.21
Fortunately I was able to find a copy of the advert with the end date on it, and we managed to get the difference discounted when we phoned to complain.

They're being incredibly crafty with their online grocery shopping too in order to avoid more expensive substituting of items.
We've noticed on MANY occassions recently that items don't get delivered. When my wife goes back to check the order the items have been removed by Tesco themselves, with no notification.
We normally place the order on a Tuesday, for delivery on a Friday, but my wife now has to check on a daily basis to see what Tesco have removed from it!

As for prices going up, I think you'll find all the main supermarkets are doing the same. Because Tesco have been increasing, we checked out the price of shopping at Asda and getting it delivered (it would cost as much to go in our car). My wife checked the same items and the cost was identical. Also, the Asda website is confusing when it comes to ordering chickens..... they do it by weight rather than by number of chickens required.

Supermarket prices would be like a silly game if it didnt have such an impact on my purse. My favourite treat is Del Monte orange juice lollies (3 pack), found in the freezer section. In Sainsburys, these lollies have been as cheap as £1 a pack and as expensive as £2 a pack. In between they have been two for £3 and BOGOF two packs for £2. In Tesco these lollies were two packs for £3, then they decided to clear the stock so they were 50p a pack (I cleared the shelves!) How do they get away with such a variety of prices?

Another one of Tescos favourite tricks last week was this:-

12 pack of Riverway sausages on offer for £2.00 per pack

Buy two packs of this item, for - wait for it - £4.50

!!!!!! is that all about? You really have to keep your eyes peeled for scams like this!

  • I just find it so strange that in almost every other shopping experience, you have shops selling similar goods, then can shop for the best deal.
Not so with Tesco, who seems to be able to 'fiddle local Planning Regulations' by getting 'sole supplier' on areas, therefore stopping any real competitive shopping.
Like most people who shop, just for the basics.......I would like either Asda or another of the big 4 to be able to locate within a half-mile of any Tesco.....then let the fun begin....!

However, when I bought several packs, they all scanned at £2.00 so no discount due...

I use 'my supermarket' http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/ to help check where the food is cheapest that i buy...it's time consuming but helps my purse

Really I think its all a con....my local centra/mace and spar normally have 2l of milk for 99p. The big stores rip us off BIG time. Their big deals are just pennies off - not the real reductions I can get between the independants.

Is there a site that you can read put in local shops bargains? It would be an interesting comparison. Why does the oft not look into this....dodgy business.

So those wonderful club card points you thought were given for nothing are just a big brother for 'T' brand ! they know what you weakened to and what does not so manipulate your shopping habits.

If you ever want some fun and are bored.

Keep an eye on the prices of blended whiskys (such as Bells, Grants etc)

    One week 18.99
    next week £15.00
    Just before xmas £12.00
    Then 2 for £25
    Then £16

And now back to £20.00 and in a few weeks back down to £15.00

Good job i like a few different blends and have access to Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys

Its a full time job getting good prices between the three of them.

Yet Vodka same price all year round

I was in Tesco Tues 4th Jan and they had 12 packs of 500ml highland spring water at half price, on the SEL it said offer ends 18/01. Went in on 06/01 and it was back up to normal price. I know it is subject to availability but after a couple of day? surely the buyers know the stock situation.
Another thing is petrol. They always used to be the cheapest where i am, first to reduce last to put up, now its the opposite.
On new years eve they put the price up by 1p then new years day another 1p for the duty rise. On 03/01 they put it up again by 1p then the next day another 3p for the VAT rise. The 2 x 1p rises were just blatant profiterring, the local ESSO in the area was 2p a litre cheaper after the tax and duty rises, purely because they didnt put on the extra 1p rip off rises.
I know refuse to buy petrol there.
