Welcome Finance

Hi this is my first post but I have been reading on the site for a long time with great interest.
I have decided to get my affairs in order today as I have been running away from my debts for a long time. I know it is wrong to ignore debt (which is what I have been doing after moving house a couple of times) but I am now looking to sort everything out. I am going to post a SOA on the debt free wannabe board shortly but in the meantime I have a question.
I have looked at my Experian report today to get an accurate picture of how things stand and a loan I had with Welcome Finance is on there at my old address as expected.
It says balance £0, defaulted Oct 2009, (stopped paying Sep 08) and settled. last updated 02/01/2010.
Underneath it says the debt has been passed to an outside agency.
How do I find out where the debt is now as I have had nothing from them (was in my last house until July 09 and the only thing I received from them was a cheque for £124 no idea why)
Thanks for reading

LOL did you cash the cheque?

The only thing I can think of is a ppi refund and the cheque was the balance after they'd taken the balance owed on your defaulted loan.

  • Course I did lol. I thought that but I've made a point of never taking out PPI, used to work for a bank and know all about it so always double checked whether it had been added.

Bear in mind if you've cashed a cheque you're not certain you're eligible for, then you may be asked for the money back at sometime - it might have a rightful owner who can come looking for it :-)

there was a problem some time back where settlement figures when "topping" up a new loan was calculated incorrectly, and hundreds of people had the adjustment refunded to them irrespective of wethere there were any arrears on the account. Welcome transfer their default accounts to "the Lewis Group", if still unpaid, Lewis then sell the debt on again. 1st point of call needs to be Welcome, then The lewis Group (lewis based in Cleckheaton)
  • Thanks for your advice-will contact Welcome and then Lewis group. :)
