student tax

Hi there, Im a 17yr Old Student at Sixth Form College. How much am I allowed to earn before being taxed?

    £5035 between 6 April 2006 and 5 April 2007. This is the personal allowance for a person under the age of 65.

    During college holidays you need to fill in a P38 (your employer will have them) and then you will not have to pay tax during the holidays.

    A normal tax code is 503L for 06/07 - if yours is different then ask the tax office why.

    This only applies if you work ONLY during the holidays. You may find the HMRC student brochure TAX+U helpful.

    I stand corrected! Although i used to fill in a P38 when i was a student for my part time job.
