Even if the Son-rise programme works I'm not sure how useful promo material for courses run by Autism Treatment Center of America will be outside the US.
(eta2 - they do, do causes in the Uk but they're very expensive http://www.autism.org.uk/en-gb/living-with-autism/approaches-therapies-and-interventions/relationship-based-interventions/the-son-rise-program.aspxNational_Autistic_Society wrote:It is very difficult to find out the costs of the different programs as it is not something readily advertised on their website. However, the estimates of the courses are as follow:
$1,995 for the Start-Up Program in the USA
$2,385 for the Start-Up Program in the UK
$11,500 for the Intensive Program
$1,995 for the Maximum Impact Program in the USA
$2,385 for the Maximum Impact Program in the UK
Phone consultation $550 (50 minutes) though this can vary greatly depending on the professional you talk to.
eta: anything that claims they've helped/caused "Autism recovery" and/or a "journey out of Autism" rings alarm bells for me."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0 -

Ditto - major alarm bells.
I'm autistic myself - their front page alone is highly offensive, they seem openly anti-autism and are also recommended by Autism Speaks...which should say it all! Autism is a neurological difference so their claims of 'recovery' is nonsense, and looking at their techniques I could see this method causing serious harm to autistic kids.0 -
There is no magic 'cure' for Autism.
With help from your GP. Specialist, Social Worker, School Special Needs Coordinator....et'c you can try and ease a few symptoms and maybe learn some coping strategies.....but there is no cure!
I have ASD - I will never 'recover' or manage a 'journey out' of Autism.
There are some fantastic resources available to help those of us with ASD - this DVD does not seem to be one of them.....I would avoid it!0 -
I agree - My Grandson is Autistic and it makes me ANGRY when I see websites claiming 'cures' for his Autism
I have embraced him as he is with open arms and I love and support him the best I can and he is actually the HAPPIEST little boy I know!
So , NO , I don't want to CURE him he is unique and special and it just verifies the whole of societies intolerance of anyone with learning difficulties if they want to ''cure'' it like it is a disease!!:mad:
Sorry , but I don't even LIKE the title ''Autism solutions'' as WHO is the one with the PROBLEM? Not my Grandson and I don't actually see his Autism as a PROBLEM ( needing a 'solution' ) but as a CONDITION0 -
I'm on my phone so can't do a long post - this group asks parents to change their philosophy, they achieve this by attending meetings where they chant and hug each other and IMO they are no better than a cult. Son Rise is an intensive programme which is potentially very stressful for a child & independent studies have shown no benefit in the method http://www.innovations-report.de/html/berichte/medizin_gesundheit/bericht-36319.html
Please, please, please do not give them your children or your money.Quid quid latine dictum sit, altum videtur0 -
If you have the time - try Googling Son-Rise Autism....some interesting stiff crops up.
There is strong doubt that the original boy actually had ASD - no official diagnosis.
And there is no documented evidence that any child officially diagnosed has experienced a break through as a result of this program.
All there is is a plethora of heart-warming 'true' stories from parents/children.
As well as sending you the DVD, Son-Rise would like your phone number to give you a 'free' telephone session....I suspect this will consist mainly of hard-sell of their porogram.
Steer well clear of this one!0 -
thanks to OP, but i wouldn't recommend this at all i have three sons aged 29, 27, 23, who have autism ranging from severe to moderate, there is no cure for autism, the most i am able to to do is make sure they have happy comfortable lives, free from as much stress as possible.0
