Mortgage - apply so soon?

Hi Folks,
Applied for a mortgage around Sept 2010 and we were declined due to my partner being in temp employment, although he had worked there for around 16 months at the time of the application.
This was for a new build and was for a shared equity mortgage, we have since seen a house that we would like - we have a 10% deposit in place and it is just a basic sale, no shared equity etc and was wondering if this would make a difference?
Can we apply again for a mortgage so soon after being declined, think we would try somewhere else this time.
Thanks

Yes he is, its an ongoing temp contract - he has an interview next week for full time so hopefully (fingers crossed) he gets taken on full time!
The banks advised that they would consider us if he was in temp contract continuous for 2 years - which will be nearing soon...0
