Student Loans when living abroad

I was wondering whether anyone knows whether student loans are cancelled when you move abroad. I took out 3 student loans prior to 1998 and when I did so there was a rumour going round my uni that if you lived abroad for 5 years the students would be wiped out. I am sure it is an urban legend but just thought I would check as I am into my 6th year of living abroad! Thanks

It's an urban legend. Did you complete an Overseas Income Assessment Form when you left?
