A Great Way to Save Money at Christmas!

I heard about this whilst I was in the USA last year.

The lady I was talking to had a large family - some 14 of them in total. Somewhere around September they all get together and put their names into a hat. Each family member takes a name at random.
Then you buy ONE present for that person, at a prearranged amount of money - say, £40, or whatever.

I only have a very small family and circle of close friends, but I did think that this was a brilliant idea!

This IS a great idea, known as Secret Santa. I've seen it work very well in workplaces, but I am not sure if my friends and family as a whole would be so keen. They have been suspicious about me ever since I suggested having Xmas in January so we could buy all our presents in the sales.:)

    Hi there!
We´ve been doing this in my family for a few years now and it works a treat. We get together as near to Christmas Day as we can and give out the pressies then. Good excuse for a get-together...not that we need an excuse in our family!
  • Of course, everyone has to agree!

It would work if just the adults took part in this too!

Then, if you wanted to, buy separately for the children.

That'd be something for me to consider for next year as this year we're boycotting Xmas pressies and going off to Thailand instead... very money saving he he... :D

Yes Secret Santa is common over here too- we do that at work and among my friends too but I don't think family would be too keen unfortunately.
