Shampoo for red hair recommendations?

I dyed my hair red, well auburn, on New Years Eve but its already fading:( so I'm thinking that a red coloured shampoo/conditioner would be a rather good idea. I'm on a budget and have seen some Botanics stuff 2 for £5. Has/does anyone use this or similar? I'm really sad that my colour is fading, any other tips? :)

Red hair does fade very fast! Its to do with the colour pigments not bonding with the hair very well and is a problem as yet to be resolved!

I find that using a colour depositing shampoo and or conditioner help, the ones designed for coloured hair do nothing IMO.

You can get a wash-in-wash-out type from Superdrug, they have a cool tone and a warm tone red in there, 99p each and last so I only have to use them every 2nd or 3rd wash.
Avdea do a really good shampoo and conditioner I have heard but never had the ££ to get it myself, they are nearly £20 each!
Bumble and Bumble also make colour depositing shampoo and conditioners.
And John Freida also do but its not so easy to find and you may need to try larger sized stores (Boots, Tesco, Sainsburys, Superdrug...etc) to get hold of it.

I've used the boots stuff for the year i've been dying my hair red, it's expensive but really good
also don't know how often you wash your hair but try to leave it as long as possible, less washing=less fading :)
i'm currently using the tresemme for coloured hair cos it's cheaper and is more helpful than say, herbal essences  but i'll probably give in and buy the botanics next time

I've ordered the Botanics at 2 for £5, cos our titchy store doesn't stock it:mad: I usually use Aussie which is a bit more expensive for a smaller bottle so I'm happy with £3 a bottle:T
I also got a wash in wash out from Superdrug as suggested to liven it up a bit, gonna do that in a bit so hopefully I'll have a brighter colour tomorrow:D

Do you know anyone who is going to the US soon? I stock up on the Aveda one whilst I am there - it might be expensive but lasts a lifetime!
    Gone ... or have I?

I have naturally dark red hair (auburn according to my mother and ginger according to my daughter) and I find it never washes out!

That said, Aveda color therapy for red hair (madder root) is really good. I bought the litre bottle at my hairdressers for £22 (and it was on a 3 for 2 offer). It does last ages and ages.

I have recently tried Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner and they are fab. £7.50 for a 200ml tube but again, only a tiny bit is needed to do my hair. My hair is shortish and I find a blob about the size of a 20p coin is plenty.
  • At last I have reached the age where I appreciate my red locks - all those years of taunting and you lot are paying to be a redhead!! Thanks you have cheered me up!!

Yeah- just to add, its the water that washes out the colour more then the shampoo so the fewer washes you do the better!
