Hi there
Currently I leave my glass jars out for kerbside collection.
Is there any scope for making a pound or two by collecting them and taking them to another source?
Regards in advance
Matt

If you eat jam or pickles you could find someone who makes them as they often offer a small discount for empty jars, or if you have a lot they may even offer a free jar of something. I get about 20p a jar.
The financial savings aren't great, but the environmental ones are much stronger for reusing jars rather than breaking them and recycling them.0 -
20p Would seem quite generous, New ones can be bought for less than 50p.
Transport costs would make collecting them to earn money quite hard work i would imagine.
How many times could you reuse the lid and still get them to seal properly?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks so far - any other ideas please?0

I wonder how much local councils get for glass recycling on our behalf or is it just a case that they save on dumping taxes?0

You could make attractive 'eco' drinking glasses ;-) Sadly I don't think you'll make any real money without some pretty hefty volume, which will be offset with fuel costs.0

Move to Windsor & Maidenhead http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/wm_recyclebank.htm (sorry possibly not the most practical solution!).
I can remember using bottle deposit machines in supermarkets in Europe years ago and they paid something like a penny a bottle.0 -
Thanks Lemoncurd - could I post them do you think?

some tescos have a recycling point where you can get green clubcard points in return. I'm not big on the ethics or the financial return of giving stuff to tesco but its up to you! think its just for aluminium cans actually? can anyone else confirm?? Cat:D

Back in the 70s you could buy a device called "The Bottle Chopper".
As the name suggests you could cut bottles in half and make all sorts of things out of the bits.0 -
