    Bumping an old thread....

kiran83: you should be able to make an overpayment to your Halifax mortgage using the details you have. Just set it up as a 'bill payment' or 'payment to a friend' and it will get sent by BACS or Faster Payments.

LilacPixie: Yes you could set up another account with another bank and make bill payments to your Halifax mortgage. I was contemplating this and if the other account supported faster payments (both ways) it should all go through the same day.

What you can do however it go into the branch and withdraw £100 from your current account, and pay £100 into your mortgage (the cashier doesn't actually give you the cash, you just have to fill in a paying in slip and a withdrawal slip). It will go through straight away and your mortgage balance should update the following day.

I too find it frustrating that you can't do an online bill payment from a Halifax current account to a Halifax mortgage. One of the cashiers at my local Halifax said he'd had other customer make the same complaint earlier in the week and he would pass it on.

It's probably been mentioned elsewhere on MSE but Halifax have 'improved' their online banking recently. You still can't make online overpayments to your Halifax mortgage, and now it only gives you your mortgage roll number - it seems to have hidden the sort code/account number!
