I dont understand this info on my credit report

This is the problem seriously affecting my credit file:

Account holder name:
Account holder DOB:
Company Type:
Debt Collector
Account Type: Bank Default
Last Update: 11/09/2006
Start Date:
Start Balance: £0.00
Current Balance: Account closed on 27/02/2002 with an outstanding balance of £1,444.00
Credit Limit: Not Applicable
Regular Repayment Amount: £41.00
Number of Repayments: 42
Repayment Frequency: Monthly
Worst Status: Default

However it states that in 2002 the balance was 1,444.00 I have been paying this for over 3 years at £20 a month and more recently(18months) ar around £40. How can this be that when I request the reamining balance it is £1364??? There is no interest on it. I have asked for a statement off them but dont know how long this will take and I have had an offer accepted on a house. I dont know what to do!

Sorry, can't advise on the details above, but I strongly recommend you remove your full name and date of birth from the post. There are lots of dodgy people out there who could use this information.

Could it be that charges/interest were added after 27/02/2002.
Have they never sent you a statement?

I requested one yesterday so Ill have to wait and see, maybe I just had it in my head it was a different figure. Think 6 months ago Id seen it as such a figure and presumed that meant originally so thought my debt must be a lot less. Thinking about it now its probably my own mistake but it'd be nice to see how much Id payed off.

Thanks for your help on this issue. Anyone any info on what kind of settlement figures Rockwell can do? Ive offered 50% of remaining balance they offered me 25% a year ago.
